Job summary

Gov Facility Services Limited is seeking a Mechanical Supervisor (Level 3) for HMP Chelmsford. You will lead a skilled team of trades, maintaining heating and water systems in a secure facility and ensuring Legionella and Water Regulations compliance.

The role requires an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent with 5+ years’ experience in FM/secure environments, strong safety and project management abilities, and a proven track record in people leadership.

Qualifications

• Must hold NVQ Level 3 or equivalent and have 5+ years’ experience in FM/secure environments.
• Experience with commercial/industrial heating, water, and building services.
• Knowledge of Water Regulations and Legionella L8 requirements.
• Strong safety, organisation, and people management skills.
• Ability to plan and manage projects within a facilities context.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of trades (plumbers, electricians, carpenters, etc.) to maintain complex systems.
• Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards and site procedures.
• Coordinate planned and reactive maintenance across the site.
• Drive continual improvement and effective resource planning.
• Liaise with stakeholders to deliver reliable facilities services.

• - A minimum of five years' experience, ideally within an FM environment and/ or secure environment, military, health or similar sectors.
• - Experience working on commercial or industrial heating, water or building service systems.
• - Familiar with, and ability to, work to Water Supply Regulation and Control of Legionella L8 requirements.
• - Good Health & Safety knowledge.
• - Excellent organisational, time management and people skills.
• - A rounded knowledge of risk and compliance and demonstrable planning & project management skills.

Future Plans.

GFSL has been notified by it's shareholder (MOJ) that the provision of FM Services will in future be delivered by the private sector. This means that following a successful procurement process, GFSL's services will complete transfer to a private sector provider/providers no sooner than August 2027.
