Job description

At Montu, every prescription represents a patient waiting for treatment that can make a genuine difference to their quality of life.

Our pharmacy is at the heart of everything we do, processing over 50,000 prescriptions each month, with continued month-on-month growth of approximately 10%.

We are looking for an experienced Superintendent Pharmacist to take ownership of clinical governance, regulatory compliance and professional standards across our rapidly growing, digital-first pharmacy.

This is a senior leadership opportunity for someone with extensive knowledge of GPhC standards, MHRA regulations and Controlled Drugs governance, who can provide clear regulatory direction and ensure the pharmacy continues to operate safely, compliantly and efficiently as the business grows.

Working closely with the General Manager of Pharmacy, Medical Director and wider senior leadership team, this role will be instrumental in shaping pharmacy strategy, strengthening governance frameworks and ensuring regulatory readiness for future expansion.

This is not a traditional Superintendent Pharmacist position. The scale, pace and complexity of the operation require someone who can balance rigorous professional standards with commercial awareness, operational efficiency and a genuine commitment to patient safety.

What is the Job?
What You Will Own
Clinical Governance and Regulatory Compliance
  • Take overall responsibility for clinical governance and professional standards across Montu Pharmacy.
  • Ensure compliance with GPhC standards, MHRA regulations and all relevant statutory and professional requirements.
  • Act as the senior regulatory expert within the pharmacy, providing clear guidance and direction to clinical and operational teams.
  • Lead regulatory inspections, audits and compliance reviews, ensuring the pharmacy remains inspection-ready.
  • Identify, assess and manage regulatory risks, implementing appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
  • Ensure pharmacy policies, procedures and governance frameworks remain current, effective and fit for purpose.
  • Maintain oversight of professional accountability, patient safety and regulatory reporting requirements.
Controlled Drugs Governance
  • Oversee Controlled Drugs governance, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure appropriate systems and controls are in place for the safe storage, handling, dispensing, recording and management of Controlled Drugs.
  • Maintain accurate, auditable records and ensure appropriate monitoring and reconciliation processes are followed.
  • Identify and address potential compliance risks, incidents or discrepancies.
  • Support the development of scalable Controlled Drugs governance processes as prescription volumes increase.
Professional Leadership and Team Development
  • Provide professional and clinical leadership to a pharmacy workforce of over 100 people.
  • Ensure pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and wider pharmacy teams maintain the required professional standards and competencies.
  • Oversee competency frameworks, training requirements and ongoing professional development.
  • Support pharmacy leaders in maintaining a culture of accountability, patient safety and continuous improvement.
  • Provide guidance and support on complex clinical, professional and regulatory matters.
  • Work collaboratively with operational leadership to maintain accuracy, efficiency and patient-centred care in a high-volume environment.
Pharmacy Operations, Systems and SOPs
  • Maintain oversight of pharmacy systems, processes and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ensure operational practices remain compliant, efficient and appropriate for the scale of the business.
  • Review existing processes and identify opportunities to improve safety, accuracy and operational efficiency.
  • Support the development and implementation of pharmacy technology, automation and system improvements.
  • Ensure appropriate governance is maintained as new processes, technologies and services are introduced.
  • Monitor medicines expenditure and identify opportunities for sustainable operational improvements.
  • Work closely with operational teams to balance prescription volumes, service delivery and regulatory requirements.
Strategy and Business Growth
  • Work alongside the General Manager of Pharmacy, Medical Director and senior leadership team to shape the clinical and regulatory strategy.
  • Provide regulatory expertise when evaluating new services, products and business opportunities.
  • Lead regulatory readiness for pharmacy expansion and operational growth.
  • Support the development of scalable governance frameworks that can accommodate increasing prescription volumes.
  • Influence decisions relating to pharmacy systems, technology and automation.
  • Represent Montu Pharmacy in discussions with regulators, professional bodies and relevant industry stakeholders.
  • Ensure regulatory considerations are embedded in business planning and operational decision‑making.

This role requires someone who understands the detail behind pharmacy regulation, can confidently manage inspections and audits, and has the ability to provide clear, practical guidance to both clinical and non‑clinical stakeholders.

Strong leadership, commercial awareness and the ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure are essential.
