Job summary

Leonardo S.p.A. in Basildon, United Kingdom, invites applications for a Mechanical Engineering Summer Placement. You will join a multi-disciplinary team of engineers on real projects within the Defence domain, gaining hands-on experience from day one.

The programme runs June–August 2027. You will spend at least three days per week on site, receiving coaching and opportunities to progress to further placements or a Graduate Development programme.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills across mediums (written, verbal, digital).
• Experience from project work or placements in industry is beneficial, but not essential.
• Willingness to learn and develop professionally.

Responsibilities

• Support the Mechanical Engineering Team in delivering technical solutions that meet customer needs.
• Create and present design data to the department’s best practices and industry-leading tool sets.
• Deliver detailed designs including numerical calculations and tolerance studies.
• Produce manufacturing data packs in line with BS8888 and GD&T requirements.
• Generate parts, assemblies and mechanisms within the constraints defined by the Mechanical Lead.
• Contribute to meeting cost, schedule and quality demands.

You will receive coaching and support to achieve your personal goals and work in multidisciplinary teams to gain as much experience across the product lifecycle from your time in industry as possible.
