Job summary

Amey is offering a Summer Placement in Civil Engineering in the UK. You will join the Highways & Transportation Practice and work on a portfolio of highway projects, supporting engineers from day one.

Location options include Motherwell or Edinburgh, with a 40-hour work week and a June/July 2027 start date. We seek enthusiastic students currently pursuing Civil/Structural Engineering degrees, with a full UK driving license.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to technical reports, design proposals, and client presentations.
• Support the delivery of engineering projects for national and local highways.
• Contribute to asset management strategies and lifecycle planning.
• Use industry-standard software and tools to model and analyse options/performance.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including structural, geotechnical, environmental, and transport engineers.
• Develop innovative solutions and designs that comply with industry standards and guidelines.
• Use engineering knowledge to deliver robust designs enabling safe, efficient asset management.

About the Team We have an exciting opportunity for a Summer Placement Student to join our Highways & Transportation Practice which sits within our Engineering Business, a unit that brings together expertise across civil engineering, drainage, pavements and aviation. Amey work with and alongside key government departments and local authorities across all regions of the UK to help shape, maintain and refurbish critical national and community infrastructure, as well as designing major highway projects.

We have a strong track record of producing quality, sustainable designs. With a strong presence and committed workload in all parts of the UK, we can offer varying workload for clients such as; National Highways, Transport Scotland, South Wales Trunk Road Agent, Department for Infrastructure (NI), among others.

What you’ll be doing

As a Summer Placement Student within our Highways & Transportation Practice, you will gain experience whilst supporting a Team of Engineers to deliver a portfolio of schemes for Clients.

You will work alongside the team to:

• Contribute to technical reports, design proposals, and client presentations;
• Support the delivery of engineering projects for national and local highways;

• Use industry-standard software and tools to model and analyse options/performance;
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including structural, geotechnical, environmental, and transport engineers;

• You will use your engineering knowledge and skills to deliver robust designs, which will enable clients to continue the safe, efficient, and optimal management of their assets.
