Job summary

Arup is offering a six-week internship where you’ll work alongside skilled Fire Engineers on meaningful projects, gaining exposure to all areas of fire safety engineering. You’ll liaise with external designers, learn fire-specific software, and visit sites to observe how fire strategies are implemented.

We’re seeking students pursuing a degree in Fire Engineering or related fields with a passion for sustainable development and safety. Growth-minded, adaptable individuals are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline such as Fire Engineering, Mechanical, Civil and Structural, Architectural or related field.

Responsibilities

• Six-week internship shadowing experienced Fire Engineers on real projects.

The opportunity

On your six-week internship, you'll work alongside skilled Fire Engineers on real life, meaningful projects. You will have exposure to all areas will encompass all aspects of fire safety engineering. This will range from preparing fire strategies in co-ordination with the engineering design team to the inspection and assessment of fire safety management and protection measures in existing buildings/facilities.

As part of this, you will have the opportunity to liaise with external designers and other construction and building professionals on a wide range of projects; experience and develop your ability to use fire-specific design software; conduct research in a variety of skills groups; and have the opportunity to visit sites to monitor the implementation of fire strategies and learn about the installation and construction of fire safety systems.

• From day one, you'll be given responsibility to help contribute to a range of varied and high-profile clients but will also be supported in learning about fire engineering and developing as a fire engineer.
• We'll support you in working towards a professional qualification from day one.
• Undertake fire safety research to develop evidence-based solutions for novel fire safety hazards and strive to find ways to improve safety equity for the most vulnerable, for our clients, and in partnership with academia and industry.
• Apply our ‘total fire engineering’ approach, working on projects from feasibility to operation.
• Enable a sustainable, resilient built environment, using the latest knowledge and expertise, assisted by our own in-house digital tools and software.

Working towards a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in a relevant academic discipline, such as Fire Engineering, Mechanical, Civil and Structural, Architectural or other relevant engineering subject.
