Job summary

Arcadis offers a paid Intern & Placement programme to give hands-on insight into sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy on natural and built assets. You’ll work in Geo-Environmental projects within a dynamic team, delivering real deliverables, and gaining exposure to major infrastructure and urban regeneration assignments.

As a specialist joining GROW, you’ll develop technical expertise from day one, with training and mentorship to help you progress professionally during a 10–12‑week

Qualifications

• Currently working towards a degree in a relevant subject
• Demonstrate Arcadian skills: resilience, creativity, analytical thinking, teamwork
• Excellent communication and ability to influence and consult stakeholders
• Willing to travel and stay away from home; virtual working encouraged where possible
• Hold a full UK driving licence
• Comfortable with site-based working when required

• Undertake site-based ground investigations to determine ground conditions for geological/geotechnical assessment, soil contamination and groundwater quality.
• Contribute to environmental restoration design decisions and validation to protect the environment.

Role description:

Our paid Intern & Placement programme is designed to give you a hands‑on insight into the work we do as a company and help to develop skills and knowledge within your chosen field. Supported by signposted training, the programme is based on Arcadis’ core values, giving you both technical training and support to help you develop both personally and professionally whilst with us. You will be exposed to real projects and clients and given a range of experiences to immerse yourself into over the course of your 10–12‑week internship or 12‑month placement.

As a specialist and science graduate joining GROW you will specialise from day one in your chosen discipline. Working in teams of consultants you’ll be responsible for your own deliverables, liaising with clients, and given every opportunity to build your skillsets and technical expertise. You’ll work on a range of environmental and planning projects which may include major infrastructure, urban regeneration and community focussed projects that will expose you to a variety of challenges and technical specialists.

Role accountabilities:

Geo-Environmental / Land Quality

As part of the Geo-Environmental discipline within our multi-award-winning Site Evaluation and Restoration team you will undertake site‑based ground investigations to determine the nature and quality of ground conditions for purposes including geological / geotechnical assessment, soil contamination and groundwater quality. This data will then be used to either inform design decisions or determine the need for environmental restoration, which would be designed, implemented, and validated to bring the site back into suitable use and protect the environment from harmful impacts. As a student, you will work as part of the project teams and undertake site work, including soil & groundwater sampling and site supervision, as well as desk‑based research and report writing.

Accepted degrees:

BSc (or higher) in Geology, Environmental Geoscience, Environmental Science, Geophysics, Chemistry, Environmental Consultancy or similar.

Qualifications & Experience:

• You will be working towards a degree in a relevant subject
• You will demonstrate typical Arcadian skills including Resilience, Creativity, Analytical Thinking and being a Team Player
• You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to use your technical knowledge to influence and consult stakeholders.
• Willing to travel and stay away from homewhen required (where possible we embrace virtual working)
• Hold a full driving licence which allows you to drive in the UK
• Comfortable with Site based working, when required for projects
