A leading NHS healthcare provider in Brighton is seeking a Consultant in Emergency Medicine to provide vital support in both Paediatric Emergency Medicine and Same Day Emergency Care. The role requires working shifts, including late shifts and weekends, as part of a structured on-call system. The successful candidate will collaborate with dedicated clinical teams and participate in an annual review of the job plan.
This job description sets out the details and service conditions for a whole-time equivalent substantive Consultant post (10 PAs) in Emergency Medicine, based at Homerton Healthcare. The postholder will be expected to provide support in Paediatric Emergency Medicine and Same Day Emergency Care.
The Emergency Department is a directorate within the Clinical Division for Emergency Care, Medicine, and Rehabilitation Services (EMRS); Dr Claire Charley is the Clinical Lead for Emergency Medicine, working closely with Karen Bryan-Clara the Senior Nurse for Emergency Services.
Homerton Healthcare is a Trauma Unit within the North East London and Essex Trauma Network. We have close links with the regional Major Trauma Centre (MTC) at the Royal London Hospital.
A formal job plan will be agreed upon appointment with the Clinical Lead on behalf of the Chief Medical Officer. An indicative job plan is shown below (based on a 9+1 PA appointment, equivalent to a wholetime equivalent consultant). Job plans are reviewed annually in line with the Terms and Conditions of employment. The on call is non-resident and attracts a supplement of 5%.
