Job summary

Practice Plus Group invites applications for a Substance Misuse Healthcare Assistant at HMP Winchester. The role supports the wider healthcare and substance misuse team with brief interventions, Naloxone education, and related duties within a category B prison setting.

The position is 37.5 hours weekly (Tue–Sat, 08:00–16:00) with a salary up to £31,789 per annum. Prior substance misuse experience is required to help deliver evidence-based care and promote harm minimisation.

Qualifications

• NVQ level 2/3 or equivalent in Health and Social Care.
• Experience or knowledge of Substance Misuse.
• A non-judgmental and compassionate approach.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Good IT skills and IT literacy.
• Ability to work within a busy environment.
• Ability to work unsupervised whilst following policy and procedures.
• Experience in hospital, community or prison environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support Substance Use Nurse’s in daily clinics.
• NHS Health Checks, Bloods, Urine Drug Screens, POCTS.
• Complete patient paperwork to record on the National Drug Tracking Monitoring Systems (NDTMS).
• Attend and document daily handovers.
• Provide care that is personalised and informed by what matters to patients living with addiction.
• Contribute to and implement care packages, assist with health promotion and wellbeing events.
• Acting as 2nd Signature when needed.
• Support SMART recovery groups and collect feedback forms.
• See patients after court returns and note future court dates.
• Willingness to learn SMART recovery to facilitate groups when needed.
