Location: Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent. Salary: MPS/UPS + TLR (depending on experience). Start Date: January 2026 (or sooner if available).

Twenty4Seven Education are working in partnership with a forward-thinking secondary school in Gateshead who are seeking an enthusiastic, inspiring and experienced Subject Leader for Physical Education (PE) to lead their successful department. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate PE specialist to take the next step in their career, driving up standards, promoting a love of sport and physical activity, and ensuring all students have access to outstanding PE provision.

Your Role
  • Lead, motivate and inspire a dedicated PE team to deliver engaging, high-quality lessons.
  • Oversee the planning and delivery of a broad and inclusive PE curriculum across KS3-KS5.
  • Promote excellence in both curricular and extra-curricular sport.
  • Monitor student progress and drive attainment through effective assessment and feedback.
  • Lead enrichment programmes, sports clubs and inter-school competitions.
  • Contribute to whole-school initiatives around health, wellbeing, and active lifestyles.

  • A qualified teacher with QTS and a strong background in teaching PE.
  • An ambitious leader who sets high expectations for staff and students alike.
  • Skilled at developing curriculum, tracking progress and raising achievement.
  • Passionate about inspiring young people to participate and succeed in sport.
  • A confident communicator and team player who thrives in a collaborative environment.
  • Experience of leading a department or taking on TLR responsibilities would be an advantage, but we also welcome applications from experienced PE teachers ready for a leadership step up.
