You will sub layouts across Hearst’s Women’s Lifestyle and Wellness division (Cosmopolitan, Red, Prima, Women’s Health, Men’s Health and Runner’s World), working closely with the editorial, design and marketing teams to ensure every piece of content is clear, compelling and error-free. This is a fast-paced role ideal for someone who thrives on detail, takes initiative and enjoys being at the heart of the production process.

  • Rigorously check facts and details and be relentless in the pursuit of obtaining accurate information
  • Rewrite copy where needed to improve clarity, structure, and flow – identifying gaps, raising queries and enhancing readability for the audience
  • Send layouts for legal approval when required
  • Second-read subbed layouts on proof
  • Work closely with other departments, including editorial, commercial and marketing, to ensure work flows smoothly and to deadline
  • Develop a strong understanding of production schedules, deadlines and processes
  • Take a keen interest in taking on responsibility and assist the Group Chief Sub Editor / Deputy Chief Sub Editors at busy times
  • Sub any additional editorial or commercial content that arises during the production cycle
  • Be an ambassador of Hearst UK and its values
  • You may be required to undertake such further duties as your skills, qualifications and experience allow and/or as may be assigned to you from time to time
What We Are Looking For…
  • Proven experience working as a sub editor
  • Experience on a consumer print publication
  • An interest in the relevant brands
  • Exceptional command of grammar, punctuation and spelling
  • Proficient in Adobe InDesign and content management systems
  • Accuracy and a sharp eye for detail
  • Highly organised and meticulous
  • Self-motivated and positive
  • Able to remain calm, focused and effective under pressure
  • Strong interpersonal/interdepartmental skills
  • Skilled at managing multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive mindset
