Job summary

This outside IR35 position offers a competitive day rate of £400-£470 over a 10-month engagement with potential extensions.

Job Overview

A leading civil engineering contractor is seeking an experienced Sub Agent to support the delivery of a major heavy civils project in the Woking area. The role involves managing site teams, overseeing quality and safety, coordinating subcontractors, and ensuring works are delivered to programme.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

• Support the Site Agent and Project Manager in the delivery of heavy civils works across the project.
• Manage site engineering teams and supervise subcontractors.
• Lead on quality assurance processes, ITPs, WPPs, permits and compliance documentation.
• Ensure construction activities are delivered in line with programme and specifications.
• Oversee daily site operations, progress reporting and short-term planning.
• Contribute to risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work.
• Coordinate materials, plant, and labour to support efficient delivery.
• Maintain strong communication with design teams, stakeholders and client representatives.
• Resolve technical issues and support engineering challenges on site.
• Ensure all works are delivered to the highest standards of safety and environmental compliance.
• Proven experience as a Sub Agent or experienced Section Engineer ready to step up.
• Background in heavy civils, such as structures, concrete works, earthworks, drainage, highways or utilities.
• Strong understanding of quality management systems and site documentation.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Competent in reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
• CSCS, SMSTS/SSSTS and First Aid preferred.
• Ability to operate independently within an outside IR35 framework.
• This position is outside IR35, offering a competitive day rate and long-term continuity on a high-profile project. Outside IR35 contract.
• £400‑£470/day depending on experience.
