Job summary

Skanska Costain STRABAG Joint Venture is seeking a driven on-site/Hybrid Senior Site Manager for the HS2 London Tunnels project. You will prepare and manage handover, QA, completions and transitions paperwork, ensuring compliance with project requirements and handover programmes.

You will supervise design, programme and preconstruction information, manage resources, and mentor Construction teams and Sub-Contractors, while maintaining HS2 and safety standards across disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Degree-level qualification in Civil Engineering or equivalent HND.
  • Knowledge of construction techniques, sequencing and best practice.
  • Experience with NEC contracts.
  • Ability to use initiative and work independently.
  • Strong communication skills and MS Office proficiency.
  • CSCS Card holder.
  • Training in Health & Safety and Environmental management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, supervise, train and mentor the site team to optimise their work.
  • Take ownership of the handover process.
  • Develop subcontract conditions and manage subcontractor accounts with the QS team.
  • Communicate non-conformances to the Construction Manager, QA and QS teams and keep records.
  • Ensure inspection/test plans, risk assessments and method statements are implemented.
  • Uphold Health, Safety and Environmental policies within your area.
  • Ensure relevant policies are accessible to the team and stakeholders, including HS2 requirements.
  • Coordinate with Construction Manager, Design/Engineering Team, QA and Cost Control.
  • Liaise with HS2, subcontractors/suppliers and stakeholders as required.

Role

Working on site and from home (where requested up to 2 day a week) for the Victoria Road Crossover Box prepare and manage the Handover, Technical Assurance and Completions and Transitions Paperwork for the completed work packages. Ensure the quality of the and ensure that they are handed over to the correct project requirements in line with the handover programme.

You May Also Be Required To

Prepare for the delivery of these works ,manage design, programme and preconstruction information production as well as manage resources and providing supervision, advice and guidance to the members of the Construction teams and Sub-Contractors.

Implement and assure compliance with all relevant HS2 and or statutory requirements with regards to Health, Safety, Environment and Public relations within their scope of work.

Manage QA within section of works, including compilation of handover packs and gaining client approval.

Main Responsibilities
  • Manage, supervise, train and mentor the site team to enable them to optimise their work contribution.
  • Manage and take ownership of the handover process.
  • Be fully conversant with subcontractor’s contract conditions, assist to develop job specific subcontract conditions and manage the subcontractors account with the QS team.
  • Communicate to the Construction Manager, QA and QS teams’ non-conformances and any instructions received from the client / designer / RE’s staff. Ensure that comprehensive records of resources employed on additional works are maintained.
  • Ensure that inspection and test plans, risk assessments and method statements for the control of the works are being implemented
  • Be familiar with; and demonstrate commitment to the requirements of the Health & Safety and Environmental Policies
  • Implement the relevant requirements of the Safety Management System within their area of responsibility.
  • Ensure that the Construction Team, Sub-Contractors and Suppliers receive or have access to copies of the relevant Health and Safety as well as Environmental Policy and are kept informed of relevant developments and issues.
  • Internal liaison with the Construction Manager, Design and Engineering Team, QA team and Cost Control.
  • External liaison with HS2, Subcontractors / Suppliers and Stakeholders, close co-ordination with the Construction Manager required.
  • Understand the Client and Joint Venture Partners' Environment and Sustainability Policies, Processes and statutory requirements as they affect the company's operations and ensure that the requirements, as applicable within their discipline, are implemented on the project.
The Ideal Candidate
Essential
  • Degree level qualification (or equivalent) in a Civil Engineering allied subject or HND in Civil Engineering and vocational training in Engineering.
  • Knowledge of construction techniques, sequencing and best practice.
  • Knowledge and understanding of working to and implementing construction contracts.(NEC)
  • Ability to use initiative based on engineering and practical experience.
  • Capable of working independently and proactively to progress works but also skilled at working collaboratively with other integrated team members and external stakeholders for the overall benefit of the project.
  • Computer competence (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Document Control Systems, Auto CAD).
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to adjust communication style to suite receiver.
  • Relevant CSCS Card.
  • Training in Health & Safety and Environmental management.

  • Temporary Works Experience and or qualifications
  • Lifting Experience and or Qualifications
  • Experience working for a Tier 1 contractor
  • Experience working with Shafts / RC / SCL works

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
