Job description

About The Role

Our Balfour Beatty Highways business has a terrific opportunity for a Sub Agent to support the Design Engineering team in delivering projects related to our Lower Thames Crossing project. The Lower Thames Crossing (LTC) is one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure projects. LTC is a new road that will connect Kent and Essex through a tunnel beneath the River Thames and will be the greenest road ever built in the UK - creating six times more green space than road. The reliable new route will almost double road capacity over the river east of London to reduce congestion and give millions of people more choice on where they live, work and spend their valuable time. We have a diverse programme team on LTC that reflects the communities we work in and fosters an inclusive culture by actively supporting the programme's Purpose, Principles and Cultural Pillars and growing employee networks. As a Sub Agent, you will support the Design Engineering team in delivering schemes related to our Lower Thames Crossing project.

What you'll be doing
  • Health, Safety & Wellbeing: Promote a safe working culture in compliance with legislation, industry best practice, project procedures, Beyond Zero Harm principles.
  • Programme & Project Controls: Produce, resource, update and monitor stage programmes using Microsoft Project. Ensure suitably trained resources are available before works commence, identify interfaces, constraints and implement corrective actions where required.
  • Engineering & Design Management: Coordinate design development, RFIs and technical interfaces, ensuring construction methodology, buildability, sequencing and programme requirements are incorporated.
  • Construction Delivery: Support the Package Manager in delivering compound establishment, welfare facilities, access arrangements, temporary infrastructure, Early Enabling Works and associated main works. Coordinate self-delivered, subcontracted and third-party activities to achieve programme milestones and support an orderly transition into main works.
  • Quality Assurance: Lead the quality management process and establish the required standards. Ensure engineers, foremen and subcontractors understand specification, inspection and reporting requirements. Produce or review Inspection and Test Plans, material approvals, quality records and associated assurance documentation.
  • Stakeholder & Community Engagement: Liaise with designers, consultants, operational teams, suppliers, subcontractors, document control and the communications team to resolve delivery issues and ensure stakeholders and the public are informed in accordance with the communications plan and DCO requirements.
  • Environmental Sustainability, Carbon & Social Value: Ensure compliance with the Environmental Management Plan, project carbon requirements and social value commitments. Approve relevant documentation and integrate environmental and carbon considerations into planning, procurement, construction and site inspections.
  • Handover: Ensure all handover deliverables, including construction certificates, red-line and as-built drawings, O&M manuals, project records and health and safety files, are produced to the required scope and incorporated into the stage programme.
  • Management & Leadership: Provide day-to-day leadership, mentoring and support to Section Engineers, Site Engineers and apprentices. Set individual objectives, communicate performance expectations, and coordinate the engineering resources required for delivery.
