About NUSU

We are Newcastle University Students' Union (NUSU) – an innovative, and student-led organisation dedicated to making the university experience unforgettable. As a charity, we are committed to enriching student life through exciting opportunities, wellbeing support, and championing the student voice. Working closely with Newcastle University, we’re right at the heart of campus, offering a dynamic space that includes a live music venue, bar, supermarket, merchandise shop, food outlets, study spaces, and more.

The Student Voice team aims to fulfil NUSU’s commitment to ensuring that students are empowered to shape their student experience, influence the Students’ Union, and have their voices heard locally and nationally.

Role Summary

This is a people focussed role where you will work directly with students helping them turn ideas and ambitions into meaningful change. You will support a wide range of student groups, elected student leaders and individual students. This could include supporting students to bring motions to Student Council, supporting student ACTions and campaigns, and providing practical advice to help students influence policy, experience and culture on campus. You will also coordinate representation for underrepresented groups, such as Liberation Officers and support students to understand and engage with NUSU’s democratic processes.

No two years will look the same. Every year you will work with new students, respond to new priorities and help students find effective ways to make their voices heard.

You will be part of the Student Voice team working closely with the Student Voice Manager, Student Voice and Representation Coordinator and Sabbatical Officers.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working with people, can build positive relationships and brings an open, curious and supportive approach.

Most of the role takes place in standard office hours Monday to Friday. Some work outside of these hours will be necessary including 6 Thursday evenings over the year to support Student Council, 3 evening events per year linked to awards and election results. Time worked outside normal hours is given back as TOIL. [HS1.1] Any other additional out of hours requirements will be discussed with you in advance.
