Description: Education Welfare Officer / Attendance Manager (maternity cover)

Salary: 33699 to 36363

Hours: 37 hours per week

Start Date: 23 February 2026

Role Summary

Outwood Grange Academy are seeking a highly motivated individual to lead our attendance strategy and ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive. This pivotal role requires a confident leader who can effectively implement policy, manage a small team, and provide targeted support to students and families facing attendance challenges. This is a senior and hands-on role requiring a strong balance of leadership, data analysis and direct casework intervention including conducting home visits and managing legal processes. The successful candidate will support children whose education is at risk and help families to improve their childrens access to learning and enable all children and young people to maximise their educational opportunities, especially those in vulnerable groups who may need additional support.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the attendance strategy and manage a small team.
  • Implement attendance policies and provide targeted support to students and families.
  • Conduct home visits and manage associated processes, including legal pathways where required.
  • Analyse attendance data to identify at-risk students and intervene appropriately.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to remove barriers to learning for vulnerable groups.
  • Maintain clear and proactive communication with students, families, and staff.
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding and relevant education regulations.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Proven experience in a managerial or senior attendance/welfare role.
  • Strong IT skills, specifically with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and resilience in a busy environment.
  • Valid UK driving licence and access to a car for home visits.
  • Awareness of attendance-related legal processes and safeguarding considerations.
Working Pattern and Terms

Working pattern: Monday to Thursday 08:00–16:00 and Friday 08:00–15:30. This is a full-year position with annual leave entitlement. As this is a maternity cover, the end date of the role will be 27 November 2026 or sooner if the employee returns to work.
