Job summary

Caludon Castle School in Coventry is seeking a Student Support Mentor (Teaching Assistant) to work 32 hours per week during term time. You will liaise with teachers, tutors and parents, monitor student progress and support identified year groups with targeted interventions.

The role offers school-based experience for aspiring teachers, with opportunities to observe lessons across subjects and years, provide teaching cover when needed, and contribute to a positive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Experience as a teaching assistant or working with students is desired.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to monitor student progress and support learning interventions.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with cohort teachers, tutors and parents to track student progress.
• Provide targeted in-class support and intervention for identified students.
• Assist with timetabled intervention/support and occasional teaching cover.
• Support vulnerable students and help them become independent learners.

Full or Part time, term time only plus 5 teacher training days

Grade 3 £26,016 - £27,274 (Full time equivalent) pro rata to hours worked

Actual salary £19,525 - £20,469 based on 32 hours per week, term time only

We are looking to recruit to our student support team. As a teaching assistant (SSM) you will liaise with the cohort’s teachers, tutors, parents, carers in a key worker role, attending meetings, overseeing student progress and acting a reporting link to staff at all levels as appropriate.

As part of our friendly and hardworking team, you would be a key worker to an identified year group, inspiring and enthusing a number of students to achieve their termly targets. The position also entails providing assistance to classroom teachers with timetabled intervention/support in a classroom setting and providing teaching cover on occasion.

You will be approachable, enthusiastic, motivated and resilient and able to support our vulnerable students as well as our most able, encouraging them to become independent learners.

This is a unique opportunity to provide specialist support utilising your skills, whilst also observing a wide range of lessons across all subjects and years. The post could suit an experienced Teaching Assistant or someone looking to enter teaching, as the position would offer school-based experience prior to applying for a PGCE or School Direct opportunity.
