Job description
Position Summary

As a Software Engineer Intern at Taylor Hobson, you will contribute to the development of our core desktop software, Metrology 4.0, which powers our industry-leading precision measurement systems. You will collaborate closely with experienced engineers to quickly build domain knowledge and gain exposure to the full software development lifecycle—from requirements gathering and planning to development, testing, and release. In addition to core development tasks, you will dedicate part of your time to automating SQA (Software Quality Assurance) using TestComplete, helping to improve efficiency and reliability in our testing processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • As a Software Engineer Intern, your responsibilities will align closely with those of the core development team, including attending scrums, reviewing code, and completing tasks across various areas of our software.
  • Additional responsibilities include:
    • Designing and implementing automated test scripts using TestComplete.
    • Maintaining and improving the automation framework to support continuous integration and delivery.
    • Collaborating with developers and QA engineers to identify test cases suitable for automation.
  • Depending on your strengths and interests, your work could also involve high-level UI design, low-level instrument control, robotics, or mathematical algorithms—giving you exposure to a diverse range of technical challenges.
Requirements for Consideration
Essential Skills
  • Competency in C# (or a similar C-style language).
Desirable Skills
  • Experience with TestComplete or other test automation tools.
  • Knowledge of source control (e.g., Perforce).
  • Familiarity with WPF, .NET Core, and the software development lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with Visual Studio (or similar IDE).
  • Strong grasp of OO design principles.
  • Exposure to 3D visualisation techniques.
  • Experience with MATLAB or other scripting languages.
Experience/Qualifications
  • An undergraduate enrolled in BSc or MSc Computer Science degree (or equivalent) with an expected 2:1 classification as a minimum. Equivalent courses could be biased towards computer programming, robotics, gaming etc. Uncertified candidates with strong computer programming background will also be considered.
