The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role., aAh! - Manchester Metropolitan University's student magazine - is looking for a talented, motivated and creative postgraduate student to support the editorial delivery of the magazine across online and print platforms, while also contributing to the development of learning resources and workshops that support student contributors. This role combines hands-on editorial experience with peer-led learning and skills development, supporting the continued growth, quality and impact of the aAh! project. The Student Media and Engagement Assistant will support the smooth running of the aAh! online and print publications. They will take an imaginative and professional approach to creating, editing and publishing content, contributing original work and helping to ensure that aAh! remains engaging, relevant and recognisable. Working closely with the Student Media Coordinator and wider student team, the post holder will help maintain consistent editorial standards across platforms. They will support the induction of new contributors, chair regular editorial meetings, pitch and commission content, and set clear briefs for contributors to support the delivery of a planned publishing schedule. Learning, Teaching and Resources Alongside editorial duties, the Student Media and Engagement Assistant will support the facilitation of skills-based workshops and contribute to the development of practical learning resources for student contributors. This includes helping to plan and deliver sessions focused on journalism, writing, editing and publishing, and providing informal peer support to help students build confidence and skills. The role will also involve contributing ideas to improve engagement and participation in the project, ensuring that workshops, resources and communications are accessible, well-organised and responsive to student needs. The Student Media and Engagement Assistant will assist with administrative and organisational tasks that support the project, such as scheduling meetings, managing shared resources, updating contact lists, and undertaking basic research into industry trends and opportunities relevant to student media.

Responsibilities
  • Chair editorial meetings and support the delivery of training sessions (with support from the Student Media Coordinator)
  • Write, edit and publish content produced by student contributors
  • Pitch original content ideas and develop briefs to support a publishing schedule
  • Facilitate workshops and support the creation of clear, practical teaching resources and training materials
  • Support the induction and ongoing development of new team members
  • Manage associated professional email accounts and shared project resources
  • Exercise sound editorial judgement, with awareness of editorial policy, legal and ethical considerations
  • Provide general administrative and project support as required
Role Details

This role is anticipated to be for 12 hours per week, including Wednesday afternoon meetings (2pm-5pm). Other timings are flexible around the successful applicant's studies during term time. Qualifications
  • A strong interest in news, arts and culture, with awareness of current issues and trends

  • Previous experience of writing for blogs, student media or similar platforms
  • Some experience of editing, proofreading or commissioning content
  • A strong grasp of written English, with the ability to write clearly, creatively and concisely
  • An interest in supporting other students' learning and development
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to balance responsibilities alongside academic study
  • Resilience, flexibility and a willingness to learn new skills
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Initiative, creativity and good judgement
  • A good working knowledge of WordPress (or willingness to learn)
