York St John Students' Union is seeking Kitchen Staff who are current students at York St John University. The role involves opening the kitchen, prepping items, and serving customers in the Bar and Coffee Lounge on shift, with a focus on food safety and teamwork.

No prior experience required as a training programme is provided; a casual contract supports students balancing studies, with opportunities to develop cooking and customer service skills while on campus in York.

Mansioni

• Open and set up the kitchen for service.
• Pre-prepare food items for service.
• Complete online food safety course and other university courses.
• Keep the kitchen clean, tidy and prepped for the next shift.
• Deliver food from the kitchen to customers in the Bar and Coffee Lounge.
• Follow the kitchen close down checklist to finish duties and restock for the next day.
• Ensure all paperwork is completed.

We employ a large team of student staff. We welcome applications from everyone, so don’t worry if you have never worked in this area before. We have a training programme for all of our staff, which helps you develop a wide variety of skills to take with you once you have finished University.

Requirements

• You are a current York St John University student
• Can work day shifts around university commitments as well as evenings
• Have good time management skills

Main duties whilst working in the Students' Union Kitchen

• Opening and setting up the kitchen for service
• Pre-preparing various food items for service
• Completing an online food safety course, as well as other generic courses provided by the university. These are qualifications that are great to add to your CV
• Ensuring that the kitchen is clean, tidy, and fully prepped for the next person coming in on shift
• Running food from the kitchen to customers in the Bar and Coffee Lounge
• Following and completing the kitchen close down checklist to ensure that the kitchen is closed down correctly, and to a high standard including -
• - Re stocking for the next day
• - Ensuring that all paperwork is complete
