Student Engagement Officer

This role is committed to ensuring student engagement and progress across all our College sites. The Student Engagement Officer will work alongside Lecturers, Heads of Department, and Heads of Studies to support students who are a cause for concern due to poor behaviours.

There will be a particular focus on the conduct of students undertaking maths and English, ensuring they achieve their best results at the college through keeping records of initiatives, interventions, and meetings for monitoring and measuring data for impact. The successful candidate will be required to liaise with relevant staff, Managers, and Heads of Studies team to ensure consistency of communication and expectations.

The role is key to our philosophy of Ready, Respectful, and Safe and will work with students (and parents/guardians) at risk due to poor behaviours in or out of classrooms and workshops to enable them to become the best version of themselves. The postholder will be on call to support staff with behavioural incidents during the College day and support with investigating and handling behaviour incidents as and when they happen. The role will undertake key work with vulnerable students and parents/guardians in relation to behaviours.

Applicants will need to have the skills and experience to support positive behaviour in and out of the classroom and workshop environments, encourage students to hold a high regard for their learning environment and resources, have the desire to inspire and enthuse students and be ambitious for their future and take a trauma-informed approach to engaging students in the life of the college and ensuring college expectations are met in and out of classrooms and workshops.

Previous experience of providing information and advice to enable pupils to make choices about their own learning/behaviour/attendance/progression would be an advantage.
