Job summary

NG Bailey Group is seeking a Structured Cabling Data Engineer to work onsite at customer sites in and around Portsmouth, with potential for away-from-home work. The role covers structured cabling installations, fibre, data and voice systems, and related network upgrades within secure environments.

You’ll join a growing team, handling hands-on break-fix support, installation challenges, and maintaining high safety standards while delivering on project requirements.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of MoD standards (preferable).
• Previous experience with fibre, data and voice cabling.
• Proven ability to locate and rectify faults.
• Solid experience working on live customer sites.
• Ability to work from construction drawings.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Willingness to be part of an on-call rota and out-of-hours work.
• Willingness to travel for work UK and overseas.

Responsibilities

• Operate safely and lead health and safety on site.
• Adhere to NG Bailey policies, processes and procedures.
• Ensure works meet NG Bailey IT Service standards and client guidelines.
• Maintain records of deliveries and project stock.
• Provide timely internal and customer project reporting (timesheets, mileage, reports).
• Monitor quality and productivity against programme and maintain site records.
• Maintain positive relationships with the customer to support future opportunities and profitability.
• Ensure installations meet internal and client specifications and statutory requirements.

Summary

Join a growing team as a Structured Cabling / Managed Services Engineer, supporting critical infrastructure in secure military environments. This hands‑on role covers a mix of break‑fix support, structured cabling installations, network upgrades, and the maintenance of fibre, data, and voice systems.

It’s a great opportunity for an engineer with fibre, data, or voice cabling experience who wants to broaden their technical skills and work on high‑profile projects. Some of the key deliverables of the role will include:

• Alwaysoperatein a safe manner andin accordance withNG Bailey H&S policies whiledemonstratingappropriate Healthand Safety leadership to ensure that the safetyfirst and foremostmessage is visible and alive throughout any activities carried out.
• Ensure adherence to all NG Bailey’s policies, processes, and procedures.
• Ensure all workscomply withNG Bailey IT Service’s standards and to meet and where possible, exceed Client expectations, whilst ensuring adherence to vendor and manufacturer design guidelines.
• Keeping material control andmaintainrecords of deliveries and project stock.
• Ensuring the provision oftimelyandaccurateinternal and customer project reporting (timesheets, mileage returns, daily reports, completion certificates).
• Monitoring the quality and productivity against programme andmaintaindaily site records and reports.
• Ensure that positive relationships aremaintainedwith the customer through efficient delivery of projects with a view to optimising future opportunities and profitability.
• Ensuring Service and Projects installation meets internal and client specifications and statutory requirements.

Whatwe’relooking for:

• Ability to work from construction drawings.

• Willingness to travel work away from home (UK and overseas).

• Security Clearance is conditional for this role; assistance will be given by NG Bailey Vetting.
• Full Driving Licence isrequired.
