Job summary

AZTRUM is seeking a Structural Engineer in Plymouth to work on a diverse portfolio of projects, from local client work to large schemes across the UK and beyond. You will contribute to design across stages, including surveys, refurbishments, and complex analyses, while developing towards chartership.

The role emphasizes collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, use of BIM, and applying Eurocodes to deliver safe, sustainable design solutions.

Qualifications

• Experience in structural design, with site exposure in construction projects.
• Strong understanding of Eurocodes and regulatory requirements.
• Proficient in structural analysis and design software (Tekla, MasterSeries, SCIA or TEDDS).
• Awareness of sustainability considerations in structural design.
• Excellent report-writing and communication skills.
• Collaborative and proactive attitude.

Responsibilities

• Prepare outline structural designs in line with client briefs.
• Carry out detailed structural design calculations in accordance with Eurocodes, using the latest 3D design software.
• Coordinate designs with other disciplines and specialists using BIM.
• Assist in producing detailed design drawings and specifications for tender.
• Carry out structural surveys of existing buildings and advise on potential issues.
• Investigate and report on structural defects in buildings and other structures.
• Review incoming and outgoing documentation, including contractors' proposals.

We are working with a leading Built Environment Consultancy, who are looking to welcome a Structural Engineer to their team in Plymouth. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, from smaller, local client-focused assignments to large, complex schemes across the UK and internationally, working with a varied client base. You'll play an important role in delivering a wide range of structural engineering services, with opportunities to develop your technical expertise and progress towards professional chartership.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare outline structural designs in line with client briefs.
• Carry out detailed structural design calculations in accordance with Eurocodes, using the latest 3D design software.
• Coordinate designs with other disciplines and specialists using BIM.
• Assist in producing detailed design drawings and specifications for tender.

Skills and Experience Required

• Experience in structural design, ideally including site experience within a construction environment.

• An understanding of sustainability considerations within structural design.
• Strong report-writing skills and the ability to communicate technical information effectively.
• A proactive, can-do attitude with a collaborative approach to working with colleagues, clients and project partners.
