ALTEN is recruiting a Structural Engineer in Manchester to support nuclear sector projects. You will design and analyse reinforced concrete and steel structures, perform complex calculations, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance across multi-disciplinary teams.

The role requires hands-on experience with Eurocodes and ETC-C, with BPSS clearance or eligibility. It offers hybrid working and exposure to premier engineering projects with a diverse, multinational environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or equivalent military experience.
• Eligibility to obtain UK security clearance (BPSS minimum).
• Experience in nuclear, energy or other highly regulated industries.
• Solid understanding of Eurocodes and nuclear-related design standards.

Responsibilities

• Design and analyse reinforced concrete structures for nuclear facilities and related infrastructure.
• Perform structural calculations and modelling to ensure compliance with design codes and safety requirements.
• Design and analyse reinforced concrete for EPR nuclear power plants per Eurocodes and ETC-C.
• Support design changes by assessing structural impacts and advising on modifications.
• Ensure structural integrity under seismic, dynamic, environmental loads and temporary construction sequences.
• Assess design changes and propose suitable design modifications.
• Provide technical support during construction, including site assessments and issue resolution.
• Collaborate with construction contractors, site teams, clients and regulators to ensure safety and CDM compliance.

As a Structural Engineer, you will join Manchester team to support our activities within the Nuclear sector.

This role offers the opportunity to work on some of the most complex reinforced concrete and steel structures in the nuclear industry, collaborating within a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environment to deliver safe, resilient, and high-quality engineering solutions for our clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and analyse reinforced concrete structures for nuclear facilities and associated infrastructure.
• Perform structural calculations and modelling to ensure compliance with relevant design codes and safety requirements.
• Design and analyse reinforced concrete for EPR nuclear power plants in accordance with applicable codes and standards (Eurocodes, ETC-C, etc.).
• Support design changes and modifications by assessing structural impacts and recommending appropriate engineering solutions.
• Ensure structural integrity and resilience under a wide range of loading conditions, including seismic, dynamic, environmental loads and temporary construction sequences.
• Assess and manage design changes, evaluating structural impacts and proposing appropriate design modifications.
• Provide technical support during construction, including site assessments and resolution of structural issues.
• Work with construction contractors, site teams, clients, principal designers and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with nuclear safety and CDM regulations.

Required Skills

• Strong experience in structural design of reinforced concrete.
• Proven experience within nuclear, energy or other highly regulated industries.
• Solid understanding of Eurocodes and nuclear-related design standards.

Required Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
• Eligibility to obtain UK security clearance (BPSS as a minimum)

Desirable Skills

• Experience working on EPR nuclear power plant projects.
• Familiarity with BIM environments and multi-disciplinary coordination.
• Previous leadership or team management experience in complex engineering projects.
