About the Role

Involved in the design and specification of new build developments. Inspect properties with structural defects (subsidence, flood, fire, etc.). Manage projects, correspond with multiple disciplines, write repair schedules and contract documents, inspect works, and provide engineering services on time and budget.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct defect analysis of existing buildings and produce associated reports.
  • Assess and specify repairs of damaged building failures (subsidence, fire, vehicle impact, flood).
  • Develop structural schemes for new build developments and undertake elemental design calculations.
  • Prepare reinforcement detail drawings, bending schedules, structural steel details and contract administration for repairs.
  • Carry out general administration and issue drawings.
  • Perform on‑site survey work and conduct contractor inspections.
  • Assist in the provision of proposals and provide feedback to directors on practice operation.
  • Deal with technical queries and support junior staff.
  • Review engineering work for quality, licensing and design disclosure compliance.
  • Maintain awareness of company decisions, liability and safety policies.
Qualifications
  • A degree in Structural Engineering from a university recognised by the IStructE, MEng or BEng (minimum 2:1).
  • Minimum 5 years full‑time employed experience.
  • Valid driving licence and willingness to use a car for site visits.
  • Experience in design and supervision/inspection of structural works (reinforced concrete, structural steelwork, masonry, timber and foundations).
  • Experience in inspecting buildings with structural distress and identifying causes (subsidence, roof spread, fire damage, deleterious material failure, explosion, overloading).
  • Experience managing small and medium projects up to £1m.
  • Knowledge of building defects, causes and repair measures.
  • Strong technical knowledge, report writing skills and the ability to produce clear annotated drawings and calculations.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite.
