Job description

A client within the Public Sector based in Gateshead is currently recruiting for a Structural Engineer to join their Structures and Engineering Team as soon as possible. The client is offering a full-time, permanent position on an ongoing basis, with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a structural engineering or consultancy environment.

The Role

Key purpose of the role is to lead the structural engineering function, overseeing design, inspections, analysis and team performance while ensuring all works comply with statutory requirements, technical standards and organisational objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leading a small team of Structural Engineers and Technicians, providing technical guidance, workload planning and performance oversight.
  • Undertaking and reviewing structural analysis, calculations and design works across a range of public‑sector projects.
  • Managing the use of Tekla Structural Designer and AutoCAD/Revit outputs, ensuring accuracy, compliance and efficiency.
  • Conducting and overseeing structural surveys, inspections and producing high-quality technical reports.
  • Acting as a key liaison with internal stakeholders, contractors, architects and project managers to ensure effective project delivery.
  • Signing off junior engineers' work, ensuring adherence to building regulations, design standards and local authority policies.
  • Supporting project programming, resource allocation, progress reporting and risk management.
The Candidate

To be considered for this role you will require:

  • A degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.
  • 5+ years' structural design experience, ideally with some supervisory or mentoring responsibilities.
  • Strong working knowledge of engineering design software (Tekla Structural Designer, AutoCAD at minimum).

The below skills would be beneficial for the role:

  • Experience using Autodesk Revit.
  • Chartered or working toward Chartered status (ICE or IStructE).
  • A full UK driving licence.

The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering up to £55,000 p/a + comprehensive benefits.
