Job summary

Mott MacDonald Bentley is recruiting a Structural Engineer to work on UK water and wastewater schemes, from feasibility through to construction. You will shape structural aspects across lifecycle stages and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver robust, compliant solutions.

Key requirements include a degree in structural/civil engineering, chartered status or equivalent, and proficiency in Staad Pro, ETABS or SAP2000.

In November 2023, MMB secured its first ever framework withSouth WestWater, the company responsible for the water and wastewater services of 1.8 million customers in Cornwall, Devon, the Isles of Scilly and parts of Dorset and Somerset

The multi-million-pound AMP8 contract runs for five years to 2029 - with the potential for a further five-year extension - and sees us bring ourtrack recordof innovative project delivery to thesouth westof England for the very first time.

You will work on projects that make a real difference to our environment and our communities. Working primarily in the UK water market, MMB provides the feasibility, design, construction, and commissioning services needed to keep water flowing and wastewater treated. You’ll work on projects that make a real difference to our environment and our communities by enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of water and wastewater treatment systems.

You will play a pivotal role in shaping the structural functions throughout the lifecycle of various projects. From concept design to commissioning, you will ensure that all civil aspects are meticulously considered and integrated.

As a Structural Engineer your responsibilities will include:

Preparing and reviewing designs for schemes and ensuring all designs are fit for purpose and meet current legislation and standards.

Preparing detailed structural calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports.

Conducting site inspections and assessing existing structures for repair and/or replacement

Producing and reviewing technical specifications and schedules for procurement activities, reviewing supplier tender bids and technical submissions.

Understanding, applying and contributing to design standards with a good knowledge of Client and industry standards.

Be able to appropriately challenge Client specifications and present and defend solutions to complex problems.

Identifying opportunities to improve delivery processes including development and implementation of standard designs, sustainable solutions, and digital tools.

Acting as technical checker on project documents and undertaking technical reviews for projects across teams.

Managing the interfaces and integration of the design with that of other disciplines and production of documentation.

Able to actively seek input from other engineers, specialists, client and project team members to improve understanding and deliver fit for purpose solutions.

Working closely and collaboratively with the commercial, operational and construction teams to develop efficient, practical and safe solutions throughout design stages, construction and beyond.

Supervising and mentoring our Graduates and Engineers assisting them to develop their knowledge and skills.

Positively engage with the client, managing relationships and adopting a one-team approach to supporting them in achieving their aims.

Undertaking site reviews to ensure buildability of solutions and integration within the existing systems.

Candidate requirements:

Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or related field.

Chartered member of professional institution e.g ICE, IMechE, etc, or equivalent experience.

Experience with water, or wastewater, non-infrastructure or infrastructure projects.

Knowledge of relevant design codes and standards (e.g. Eurocodes, British Standards)

Proficient in structural analysis software (e.g. Staad Pro, ETABS, SAP2000)

Experience of successfully delivering high quality outputs in accordance with design, quality and safety standards.

Ability to communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.

Methodical approach to problem solving.

A proactive and pragmatic approach.

Proficient in delivering results within short timeframes, prioritising tasks and managing your time efficiently.

A valid driving licence and willingness to travel to sites.
