Structural Designer – Packaging
Location: Wigan – Manchester

Role: To work within the design team alongside our sales department in order to design products for our customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Creation of new concepts to meet packaging briefs
- Gain insight into design trends across different market segments to allow proactive approaches to our customers and the markets in which they belong
- Awareness of the latest design tools and technologies to offer our customers sustainable competitive advantages in our proposals
- Participation in training programmes to drive self‑development marketing
- Awareness and update of market trends
- Awareness of the latest marketing techniques and innovations to maximise the value added through designing the products that will be displayed on the shelf
- Compliance with all set policies and procedures
- Understanding of customer expectations and needs on the technical side of our business relationship to build the most appropriate design and technical solutions
- Participation in customer meetings when required
- Implement our customer savings, complexity, reduction and/or harmonisation projects aligned to project briefs
Core Responsibilities
- Design & Development: Create innovative corrugated packaging structures and point‑of‑purchase (POP) displays using CAD software (commonly ArtiosCAD) and sometimes 3D modelling tools
- Prototyping & Testing: Develop prototypes, conduct material analysis, and perform structural integrity tests to ensure designs meet performance and cost requirements
- Collaboration: Work closely with sales teams, graphic designers, and manufacturing to translate customer needs into practical, cost‑effective solutions
- Technical Documentation: Prepare detailed specifications, dielines, and setup instructions for production and retail environments
- Continuous Improvement: Evaluate existing packaging for improvements in style, function, cost, and ease of assembly
Requirements
- Packaging structural design experience
- CAD experience in Artios
- Experience with packages such as Adobe suite
- Expertise in ArtiosCAD and familiarity with Kongsberg cutting tables
- Understanding of structural design principles, materials, and production methods in corrugated packaging
- Ability to present concepts clearly to technical and non‑technical audiences
- Strong analytical and creative thinking skills for developing cost‑effective designs
- Well organised with a high level of attention to detail
- Team player with the ability to interact and cooperate with the team
