Overview

Structural Design Engineer. Location: Colchester (Hybrid Working). Sector: Structural / Remediation / Consulting Engineering. The role will involve producing structural design solutions and technical specifications for remedial works in residential and small commercial structures.

Responsibilities
  • Develop structural design schemes for small to medium-scale remedial works, including: underpinning and foundation strengthening; retaining wall and support structures; structural member replacement/strengthening (beams, lintels, joists, rafters, etc.); temporary works design to support construction phases.
  • Produce and/or review specifications and technical reports for remediation schemes.
  • Work closely with surveyors, contractors, and senior engineers to ensure practical and compliant solutions.
  • Prepare clear calculations and drawings to illustrate proposed designs.
  • (Preferred) Produce CAD drawings or markups — CAD ability is beneficial but not essential, as assistance can be provided.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Engineering background — ideally Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Ability to produce calculations for basic structural design scenarios.
  • Understanding of common building defects and remediation techniques.
  • Comfortable designing and justifying underpinning, masonry repairs, support beams, and temporary works.
  • Strong communication skills — able to explain technical decisions to non-engineers
