Overview

Structural Design Engineer

Our client is seeking a motivated and detail-driven Structural Design Engineer to join their team in Bedford. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects within a supportive, hands-on construction environment. This chartered building company has a strong foothold across various sectors, including automotive, conservation, accommodation, leisure and healthcare.

What we're looking for
  • Flexible, motivated, and enthusiastic
  • Confident in applying basic structural engineering principles
  • Experienced in British construction methods, products, and standards
  • Skilled in design using British Standards and Eurocodes for steel, concrete, masonry, and timber structures
  • Competent in producing detailed designs using both hand calculations and modern software tools
  • Proficient in Tekla Structural Designer and Tedds
  • Able to communicate clearly through reports, sketches, and verbal discussions
  • Comfortable attending site visits, meetings, and responding to site queries
As part of the role, you will
  • Check third-party designs for both permanent and temporary works
  • Produce your own designs for temporary and permanent works
  • Troubleshoot and resolve site-based technical issues
  • Create 3D models and structural designs (predominantly reinforced concrete and steel frames) to explore options and value engineering opportunities
  • Attend site to provide technical support and liaise with teams on design matters
