Job summary

Fairhurst LLP is seeking a Structural / Civil Engineering Technical Manager to lead technical delivery on temporary events projects across the UK and overseas. The role collaborates with the Director to ensure design quality, regulatory compliance and multidisciplinary coordination.

The candidate will oversee design outputs, manage client/stakeholder inputs, and develop engineers within the team, aligning with Fairhurst’s standards and ISO-aligned quality systems.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (MEng/BEng or equivalent).
  • Chartered status (CEng, MICE or equivalent).
  • Significant civil/structural engineering experience, including temporary works design/review and coordination.

Structural / Civil Engineering Technical Manager

Fairhurst’s specialist Events team are well known for delivering high-quality events operations, health and safety, structural and civil services across various sectors, including world class temporary sports events.

Role Overview – Supported by our Director, theStructural / Civil Technical Manager will take a leading role in technical project delivery across the structural and civil engineering aspects of our temporary sports events projects, in the UK and overseas. The role involves overseeing the structural and civil engineering input to all phases on an event including initial bidding, venue development, contingency planning, event build, event deliver, and lessons learnt / close out.

This will include ensuring design quality, managing client, stakeholders and multidisciplinary inputs, ensuring compliance with industry standards/statutory requirements, and supporting the development of the engineers and technicians within the team.

Supported by our Director, theStructural / Civil Technical Manager will act as a technical authority for structural and civil engineering, contributing to project success and Fairhurst’s reputation for events consultancy innovation and excellence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Design & Technical Delivery

  • Preparation of proposals, managing deliverables, budgets and invoicing.
  • Lead, coordinate, and review structural and civil engineering outputs, ensuring accuracy, technical robustness, and compliance.
  • Ensure structural and civil outputs meet regulatory requirements and align with Fairhurst’s quality standards.
  • Handling and responding to correspondence (emails, calls, meetings, letters etc).
  • Organizing and maintaining project documentation, including reports, presentations, and meeting minutes.
  • Assisting the Director and Partner with business development and key client management.

Project Delivery & Multidisciplinary Coordination

  • Manage technical inputs from internal teams (e.g. geotechnical, environmental, structures, planning, transportation).
  • Work closely with events /H&S consultants to ensure efficient resource allocation and timely delivery.
  • Provide guidance across Fairhurst’s structural and civil engineering disciplines, including roads, car parking, drainage, water supply, earthworks, and temporary structures.
  • Ensure designs meet regulatory requirements and align with Fairhurst’s quality standards.
  • Lead project reviews, client meetings, and stakeholder workshops.

Quality & Compliance

  • Conduct technical audits, risk reviews, and design checks.
  • Drive best practice in consultancy/engineering processes, modelling, and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, UK design standards, CDM duties, and Fairhurst’s ISO-aligned quality systems.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as the technical point of contact for clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Provide site attendance for meetings, contractor site visits and during events for reactive support to contingency planning.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (MEng/BEng or equivalent).
  • Chartered status (CEng, MICE or equivalent).
  • Significant experience in civil and structural engineering, including temporary works design / review and coordination.
  • Experience delivering infrastructure or development multidisciplinary projects.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and organisational skills.
  • Strong knowledge of UK design standards and regulatory frameworks.
  • Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills.
