Job summary

Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team is seeking a Structural Analysis Engineer to join the Structures group in Brackley. You will analyze metallic and composite components, supporting lightweight, high-performance car structures while collaborating with design, aero, performance and production teams.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree with 2:1 minimum grade or equivalent.
  • Experience in structural analysis within motorsport, aerospace, automotive or comparable environment.
  • Proficient with FEA tools such as Abaqus, HyperWorks, FE-Safe.
  • Good understanding of metallic and composite materials, structural behaviour and failure mechanisms.
  • Experience with linear analysis and interest in nonlinear analysis.
  • Ability to interpret analysis results and communicate findings clearly.
  • Experience supporting design development, validation or test activities.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Proactive, inquisitive and committed to high engineering standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis of metallic and composite components, supporting lightweight and high-performance designs.
  • Contribute to analysis across the product lifecycle from concept to validation and track support.
  • Develop and apply simulation models to aid engineering decisions.
  • Collaborate with design, aerodynamics, vehicle performance and production teams.
  • Evaluate load cases, stress distributions and potential failure modes with clear outputs.
  • Support physical testing programmes and correlation activities to improve models.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of analysis methodologies and tools.

  • Ensure work meets performance, safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Share knowledge and contribute to the wider engineering team.

The Role

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform structural analysis of metallic and composite components, supporting the delivery of lightweight, reliable and high-performance engineering solutions.
  • Contribute to analysis activities throughout the product lifecycle, from concept development through to validation and track support.
  • Develop and apply simulation models to support engineering decision-making.
  • Work closely with design, aerodynamics, vehicle performance and production groups to deliver integrated engineering solutions.
  • Evaluate load cases, stress distributions and potential failure modes, providing clear analysis outputs and recommendations.
  • Support physical testing programmes and correlation activities to improve model accuracy and engineering understanding.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of analysis methodologies, tools and workflows.
  • Explore innovative structural concepts, materials and analysis approaches.
  • Ensure all work meets performance, safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Actively share knowledge and contribute positively to the wider engineering team.
About You

You are an enthusiastic and motivated engineer with strong engineering fundamentals and a passion for solving challenging technical problems. You enjoy working in a collaborative environment, take pride in producing high-quality work and are eager to develop your technical capability while contributing directly to the performance of a Formula One car.

Essential Skills
  • Engineering degree, 2:1 minimum grade or equivalent.
  • Experience in structural analysis within motorsport, aerospace, automotive or a similarly demanding engineering environment.
  • Working knowledge of FEA tools such as Abaqus, HyperWorks, FE-Safe or similar.
  • Good understanding of metallic and composite materials, structural behaviour and failure mechanisms.

  • Ability to interpret analysis results and communicate findings clearly.
  • Experience supporting design development, validation or test activities.

Desirable Skills
  • Experience working within rapid development cycles, ideally in motorsport or a comparable environment.
  • Exposure to structural optimisation tools, scripting or automation techniques.
  • Interest in race car structures, kinematics or vehicle dynamics
  • Experience contributing to process improvements or analysis method development.
