Job summary

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS invites applications for a Stroke Consultant role based at Queens Medical Centre and City Hospital Campus. The appointee will manage both emergency and elective stroke patients, with a plan including 8 Programmed Activities and 2 SPAs in the first year.

The post requires extensive experience in stroke medicine, expertise in thrombolysis, and ability to lead a multidisciplinary team while contributing to teaching and audits within NUH.

Qualifications

  • Full GMC registration is required.
  • MRCP is essential for application.
  • CCT expected within 6 months of interview date or via CESR route with RCP approval.

Responsibilities

  • Direct Clinical Care for stroke patients, including emergency duties (predictable and unpredictable).
  • Carry out operating sessions and ward rounds as part of the PA plan.
  • Participate in outpatient or other clinics and attend multi-disciplinary meetings.
  • Engage in patient administration and clinical governance activities.
  • Travel between City Hospital Campus and Queen's Medical Centre campus as required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

A full range of Stroke emergency and elective patients are admitted to Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and the appointee will be responsible for the management of those patients admitted under their care.

The following draft Job Plan reflects our best assessment of what the final plan will be, based on 10 PAs. For all new consultants to NUH, we offer 8PA's DCC and 2 SPA's for the first year.

  • Extensive experience in Stroke Medicine
  • Experience in hyper acute stroke care and trained and experienced in thrombolism
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current issues in general internal medicine.
  • Evidenced technical skills as described in the job description
Desirable criteria
  • Specific training in communication skills
  • Specific training in patient safety and/or human factors
Management Skills
Essential criteria
  • Able to develop, present and operationalise coherent ideas for service development/delivery.
  • Able to delegate appropriately.
  • Able to work in a team.
  • Proven leadership skills, able to lead a team effectively.
Desirable criteria
  • Higher management degree or qualification or training
