Job description

The thrombolysis team at Broomfield are recruiting for two posts a full time (37.5hrs) and part-time (31.5hrs) which would likely increase to a full time position in 2026. We’re looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Stroke Thrombolysis Nurse to join our specialist stroke team. In this exciting and highly rewarding role, you’ll be at the heart of our acute stroke pathway, supporting the rapid assessment and treatment of patients who may benefit from thrombolysis and/or thrombectomy. You’ll work closely with the wider stroke multidisciplinary team to provide expert, evidence-based care—helping to ensure that every patient receives the right treatment, at the right time.

As a Stroke Thrombolysis Nurse, you’ll play a vital role in coordinating emergency stroke care, from the moment of arrival through to post-thrombolysis monitoring and ongoing support. You’ll use advanced clinical judgement, critical thinking, and strong communication skills to deliver safe and effective care in a fast-paced environment. You will also be heavily involved in the TIA pathway and ensuring patients receive time critical reviews to prevent life changing strokes.

Yoy will effectively lead on facilitating and coordinating the Acute Clinical Stroke Pathway, working in close conjunction with the stroke service medical team, Stroke Unit and Emergency Department.

You are is responsible for ensuring the delivery of a consistently high standard of care to meet patient needs as per the MSE and National Stroke Standards.

The Clinical Stroke Nurse will be required to effectively support and guide the nursing teams to ensure the clinical needs of stroke patients are identified and managed within the acute setting for every suspected stroke and TIA.

Working rota is made up of both day and nights shifts including weekends. You may be required to work long days (7.30am-8pm) and nights shifts (7.30pm-08:00am).

Facilitate and co-ordinate nursing care during the acute admission pathway for stroke patients. Liaise, plan and implement initial acute care in collaboration with the relevant Stroke Senior Clinician. Participate in the development of acute and rehabilitation stroke nursing within the Trust. Encourage others to be innovative and adaptable in their approach to change by contributing to the implementation of the National long-term plan for Stroke, Stroke Strategy, National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance and Royal College of Physicians Guidelines for Stroke. Hold the Acute Stroke bleep and provide a prompt level of advanced and comprehensive nursing assessment based on stroke specialist knowledge and experience in Hyper Acute Care. Where required support the specialist stroke team with any required research. This may include identifying patients which could be suitable for research trials and informing the relevant people.
