Job summary

Arabelle Services UK Ltd seeks an engineer to provide technical solutions for steam turbines used in power generation or propulsion. The role covers design contracts, lifetime management, build, assembly, commissioning and test, plus outage support for service and problem resolution on operational units.

This is an excellent opportunity to apply advanced analytical and FEA techniques within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, working on critical rotating equipment for defence sectors.

Qualifications

  • Experience with FEA packages Abaqus and ANSYS.
  • Knowledge of ASME and DNV codes.
  • Technical knowledge of rotating equipment, turbines preferable.

Responsibilities

  • Analyse components for strength in line with contract documentation using FE techniques and hand calculation methods.
  • Analyse components for plastic collapse, buckling, ratcheting, fatigue, rupture, natural frequency and heat transfer.
  • Analyse components for loads from shock and operation.
  • Assist in weld type definition and check for strength and fatigue.
  • Identify deficiencies in design through analysis techniques and propose improvements to features.
  • Analyse features and components for safe lifting during build and installation.
  • As required analyse non-customer equipment such as pressure test fixtures.
  • Build FE models, write analysis plans.
  • Report writing and presentation material.
  • Design reviews, customer presentations and meetings.

Job description

We are seeking a talented engineer to provide technical solutions in the form of steam turbines for the purpose of power generation or propulsion. This is done through the execution of design contracts as well as lifetime management through build, assembly, commissioning and test. Additionally, the department provides technical support to the installed units during outages for service and problem resolution on operational issues. This is an excellent opportunity to apply advanced analytical and FEA techniques within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, working on critical rotating equipment for the defence sectors. This position is offered as a 3 year fixed-term contract.

Main Responsibilities
  • Analyse components for strength in line with requirements outlined in contract documentation using FE techniques and hand calculation methods.

Required Experience & Skills
  • Experience in FEA packages, ideally Abaqus and ANSYS.
  • Knowledge of ASME and DNV Codes.
  • Technical knowledge of rotating equipment, turbines preferable.

Security Clearance

This work is undertaken with UK Defence customers which will require any individual applying for the role to hold or be capable of getting SC Level clearance, be a British Citizen and working or have residency in the UK for a minimum of 5 years. Applicants not cleared will not be accepted into the business until this clearance is provided. Dual passport holders are acceptable if the second country is approved by the vetting authority.
