The role

Boeing's BGS Commercial Modifications Engineering Europe team is seeking a Senior Mechanical Stress Engineer to support and lead the certification of large commercial aircraft modifications.
You will be responsible for demonstrating compliance with applicable regulatory and customer requirements, following the procedures set out in Boeing's Design Organisation Handbook (DOH). Working closely with the Structures Engineering Manager and global engineering teams, you will act as a technical focal point for structural stress analysis and certification activities across complex aircraft modification programmes.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead complex and novel commercial aircraft modification certification activities, ensuring compliance with design requirements.
  • Act as the technical focal point for structural stress analysis and certification matters.
  • Prepare and critically review structural substantiation and compliance documentation for primary structure modifications, including antenna installations and fuselage modifications.
  • Conduct primary structural analysis, including static and fatigue assessments, using finite element modelling (FEM) and classical hand calculations.
  • Demonstrate compliance with applicable airworthiness, regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Represent Boeing at customer meetings, including ITCM, PDR, CDR and FAI.
  • Provide on-site technical support during modification embodiment.
  • Develop solutions to complex engineering challenges while promoting safety, quality and innovation.
  • Collaborate with international engineering teams across multiple time zones to identify requirements and deliver solutions.
Essential skills and experience
  • Expert knowledge of EASA CS-25 Subpart C Structures certification requirements, applied to the certification of primary structure modifications.
  • Expert knowledge of primary structures analysis, including static and fatigue assessments using FEM and hand calculations.
  • Proven technical writing skills, particularly the preparation of structural substantiation and compliance documents.
  • Current or recent aerospace industry experience within an EASA Part 21J Design Organisation, or equivalent.
  • Advanced knowledge of aircraft primary structure modification and repair practices, including metallic and/or composite structures.
  • Recent experience as a Compliance Verification Engineer (CVE) within a Design Organisation Approval (DOA) organisation.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of applicable regulatory and airworthiness requirements, including EASA CS-25, JAR-25 and FAR 25, as relevant to stress and structures.
  • Proficiency in finite element analysis (FEA), classical stress analysis techniques and technical report writing.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of eight years' relevant experience, or equivalent.
Working arrangements

The role will be based at Boeing's Frimley site, with hybrid working arrangements to be discussed with candidates based on their experience.
Boeing's permanent staff are required to attend the site a minimum of three days per week. During the initial onboarding period, the successful candidate will need to be on-site to familiarise themselves with the team and working practices. Following induction, on-site attendance may be reviewed depending on how quickly the individual becomes established and manages the assigned workload.
This is a non-shift position offering an initial 12-month contract.

The ideal candidate

You will be an experienced aerospace stress engineer with strong technical expertise in primary aircraft structures, certification and compliance. You will be comfortable leading complex engineering activities, managing competing programme demands and producing high-quality technical documentation.
Strong attention to detail, professional integrity, effective communication and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams are essential.
