Job summary

Assystem is a leading nuclear engineering firm with a global presence, delivering complex and regulated infrastructure projects. The role focuses on simulation and assessment of nuclear components using FEA tools and adherence to safety codes, while coordinating with client teams and internal stakeholders.

You will work within a Simulation and Assessment team, delivering high-quality outputs on schedule, with opportunities for hybrid work and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

  • Engineering Degree (or equivalent) with a strong fundamentals in structures, mechanics and fluids.
  • Hands-on modelling experience with Abaqus, ANSYS, Nastran, CFD or similar codes.
  • Experience with safety-related code assessments (ASME, RCC-M, KTA or similar).
  • Full UK driving license and ability to travel within the UK.
  • Previous nuclear or fusion industry experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (Inventor, Catia, SolidWorks).
  • Willingness to travel to Assystem offices and customer sites in the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver and report simulation and assessment projects.
  • Communicate with customers' technical leads and internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate in embedded client teams or deliver projects from Assystem offices.
  • Apply engineering analysis using tools like ANSYS, Abaqus and MathCAD to ensure robust outputs.

Job Description

In this role, you will be working with our experienced Simulation and Assessment team to deliver projects such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA) assessments of components for nuclear components to design codes such as ASME III or RCC-M. This includes planning, delivery and reporting of the projects, and communicating with internal and external stakeholders such as the customer’s technical leads.

This role may include both working within client teams as part of an integrated embedded team, and delivering Assystem projects from one of our offices.

Qualifications
  • Excellent technical fundamentals – aptitude for calculations, appreciation of structures, mechanics and fluids, an ability to ‘sense-check’ analysis results.
  • Hands‑on experience of computer based modelling codes such as Abaqus, Ansys, Nastran, CFD etc.
  • Appreciation of code assessments in a safety related industry, for example ASME, RCC-M, KTA or comparable codes from other sectors.
  • Engineering Degree (or equivalent).
  • Full UK driving license and ability to travel within the UK.
  • Previous experience in similar roles in the nuclear or fusion industry.
  • Hands‑on experience of 3D modelling in CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor, Catia or SolidWorks.
  • Experience of fluid‑modelling such as CFD, or dynamic modelling such as LS‑Dyna or Radioss.
  • Working towards Chartered Engineer status.
