Job summary

Ordnance Survey, the UK’s national mapping service, seeks a Principal Engineer to act as the senior technical authority within Business Systems. This role shapes technology strategy, defines standards and provides governance across complex platforms while mentoring engineers across multiple teams.

You will influence at a senior level, lead on critical engineering challenges, and drive secure, scalable, future-ready systems in a hybrid Southampton-based role.

Qualifications

• Deep, broad technical expertise across software engineering, system design, integrations, Azure and enterprise platforms.
• Proven track record leading large-scale engineering or architectural transformation.
• Strong ability to shape technical strategy and influence at senior level.
• Experience providing technical governance across complex environments.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate complexity into clear direction.
• A passion for coaching, mentoring and raising engineering standards.

Responsibilities
