Job summary

Michael Page is seeking an experienced Head of Tax in the United Kingdom to lead the tax function through growth and strategic development. Based in Birmingham with hybrid working, the role reports to the Finance Director and influences senior stakeholders on tax strategy and compliance.

The position requires CTA qualification or equivalent, extensive tax advisory experience in large organisations, and a track record of managing HMRC relationships and leading teams.

Qualifications

• CTA qualification or equivalent experience.
• Significant tax advisory experience in a large, complex organisation or professional practice.
• Strong technical expertise across indirect tax plus corporate and employment taxes.
• Proven ability to work with senior leadership and influence strategy.
• Experience managing HMRC relationships and external advisers.
• Leadership credentials with team development and process improvement.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive tax strategy aligned with long-term objectives.
• Own direct, indirect and employment tax matters across the organisation and subsidiaries.
• Provide strategic tax input on UK and international projects and acquisitions.
• Lead tax planning initiatives to optimise efficiency while staying compliant.
• Serve as primary contact with HMRC and overseas authorities; manage audits and enquiries.
• Advise executive leadership on tax risk, opportunities, and regulatory changes.
• Oversee tax reporting and compliance including corporate tax and VAT.
