Job summary

The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is seeking a Security Advisor to safeguard critical national infrastructure within our Time & Frequency domain. You will assess risks, shape security policy, and guide internal teams to uphold secure, resilient operations.

You will support the NTC programme, review supplier security, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote a proactive security culture across the organisation.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience in physical and procedural security.
• GSCP familiarity and implementation of control measures.
• Experience with National Protective Security Authority (NPSA) principles.
• NPSA Foundation Course qualification.
• Knowledge of GovS:007 Security.
• Experience in regulated environments.
• Understanding of cyber threats and the interplay between cyber and physical security controls.
• Ability to translate technical security issues into business terms for reports.
• Membership of professional security bodies (e.g. The Security Institute or ASC).

Responsibilities

• Assist in conducting security risk assessments and protective security audits.
• Support the development and maintenance of security policies, procedures and standards.
• Conduct or support security investigations; including root cause analysis where required.
• Assist in developing security screening and vetting processes in line with UK legislation.
• Contribute to security awareness training and internal communications campaigns.
• Support third party risk management and supplier security reviews.
• Provide pragmatic guidance on security requirements, procedures and processes.
• Assist in driving a security culture with robust policies and controls.
• Develop strategic plans to address gaps in security performance.
• Stay informed on emerging threats to support proactive defence strategies.
