This position manages a comprehensive programme including 10 new builds, 26 major refurbishments, and 46 business‑as‑usual projects spanning 82 properties and hundreds of transmission and distribution substations. With total investment exceeding £500 million over a rolling five‑year period, this role delivers critical infrastructure enabling regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and employee needs across all ScottishPower businesses.

This position provides both operational and strategic direction to SPUK businesses, ensuring the successful execution of Corporate Services' property plans while maintaining the highest standards of health, safety, and commercial governance.

  • Manage P&L accountability for the project portfolio through successful and efficient project execution, working with Executive teams across SP businesses to maximise returns on investments exceeding £350 million in property projects and £250 million in security initiatives
  • Provide direction, development, and motivation to a high‑performing team of over 100 staff, both internal and external, including management of four direct reports covering engineering, construction and project management functions
  • Foster an equitable and cooperative environment that promotes diversity across the team and wider stakeholder groups
  • Ensure effective risk management and mitigation strategies are monitored and implemented throughout all project phases, maintaining robust health, safety, environmental, and quality standards
  • Provide visible and influential direction for Corporate Services, developing and maintaining strong working relationships across SPEN, ScottishPower, and Iberdrola at executive level, as well as with landowners, agents, technical specialists, suppliers, and contractors
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation in project execution and coordination with wider Corporate Services functions, the SPEN business, and SPUK customers
  • Represent Corporate Services in industry forums to promote the work undertaken and demonstrate the benefits of the investment programme
  • Manage over 40 different contractors across the Corporate Services delivery portfolio, ensuring robust commercial governance is in place for all contractual arrangements
  • Promote high levels of customer service and identify ongoing improvement initiatives for wider ScottishPower businesses
What you’ll bring
  • Extensive experience of large capital project execution, including budget accountability for projects exceeding £50 million
  • Experience defining strategic business direction and awareness of the role of Corporate Services within wider SP business
  • Proven track record of successfully managing large teams with diverse skill sets through significant growth and organisational change
  • Experience managing high‑value contracts through different contracting mechanisms while maintaining constructive commercial relationships
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of risk management, Health and Safety, and CDM regulations associated with major construction projects
  • Ability to demonstrate experience managing multiple high‑value construction projects across various geographic locations
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels from operational teams to executive management
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience maximising returns through regulatory mechanisms
  • Ability to drive innovation and continuous improvement in project delivery and organisational coordination
Minimum Criteria
  • Degree qualified with professional business qualification (e.g., MBA)
  • Significant experience managing capital project portfolios with values exceeding £100 million annually
  • Demonstrated experience managing teams of 100+ staff across different disciplines
  • Must either hold National Security Vetting or be likely to achieve Security Checked (SC) level clearance (minimum 5 years UK residency required)

Due to the level of this position, successful candidates will be required to complete additional background checks and any offer is subject to passing such checks.
