Job summary

Wessex Archaeology seeks a Planning and Heritage Consultancy Director to lead our Planning and Heritage Consultancy Directorate. The role focuses on shaping the service’s professional direction, leading senior colleagues, and delivering high-quality historic environment advice for planning and development.

You will report to the Chief Commercial Officer and drive growth by developing key client relationships, coordinating input across projects, and maintaining professional standards within a

Qualifications

• Specialist expertise in historic environment planning consultancy and UK planning law.
• Experience advising on complex or sensitive heritage matters with clear recommendations.
• Evidence of setting direction and delivering results through others.
• Commercial judgement and experience managing project finances, budgets and forecasts.
• Ability to build productive relationships with clients and professional partners.

Responsibilities

• Set strategic direction and priorities for the consultancy team.
• Provide senior oversight of historic environment assessment and advice.
• Lead the team through Principals and senior colleagues with clear responsibilities.
• Set and deliver the Consultancy budget with accountability for revenue and profitability.
• Represent the company with clients and planning authorities and lead business development.
• Coordinate consultancy inputs across projects with other service leads.
• Contribute to organisational strategy as part of the Senior Leadership Group.
• Maintain quality assurance and manage project, contractual and health & safety risks.
