Job summary

Trostan Dene Ltd in Birchwood, Warrington, is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead the finance function on a permanent basis. Reporting to the CEO and Group Finance Director, you will own month-end close, statutory accounts, client money controls, budgeting and forecasting, and ensure regulatory compliance within a FCA authorised environment.

Qualifications

• Qualified or working towards a recognized accounting qualification.
• Experience running a finance function end to end.
• Practical client money, trust accounts or segregated funds knowledge.
• Experience in a regulated FCA-authorised business.
• Strong cash flow forecasting and budgeting skills.
• Ability to explain numbers clearly to non-finance colleagues and the Board.

Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day financial accounting, including general ledger, sales and purchase ledgers, payroll interface, VAT, month-end close, management accounts, statutory accounts and external audit.
• Oversee client money and CASS 13 compliance, including segregation, reconciliations, accurate customer compensation payments, unclaimed balances, breach reporting and annual client money audits.
• Lead annual budgeting, business planning, revenue forecasting and cash flow management, including rolling 13-week forecasts and working capital oversight.
• Manage credit control, debtor and creditor management, fee collection, settlement tracking, bad debt provisions and fair customer payment practices in line with Consumer Duty.
• Maintain robust financial controls, including payment approvals, bank detail verification, delegated authorities and accurate revenue recognition for contingent and success-based fees.
• Monitor FCA prudential requirements, prepare financial regulatory returns and work closely with Compliance and Risk on financial crime controls, regulatory changes and customer outcomes.
• Deliver monthly group reporting packs, forecasts and consolidation schedules, ensuring alignment with parent company accounting policies, systems and reporting deadlines.
• Manage external relationships with banks, auditors, tax advisers, HMRC, insurers and investors, supporting due diligence, fundraising, refinancing and M&A activity where required.
• Business partner with the MD, Board and Heads of Department, providing financial insight, performance dashboards, claim-level profitability analysis and ROI assessments to support strategic decisions.
• Lead and develop the finance team, improve financial systems and processes, automate reporting and reconciliations, and ensure the finance function can scale with business growth.
