Job summary

General Dynamics Land Systems is seeking a full-time Buyer to join our Supply Chain Team in Merthyr Tydfil. The role offers a salary of £31,200 to £39,000 based on experience and potential, with a focus on proactive procurement and stakeholder collaboration.

The successful candidate will coach junior colleagues, manage material demands, interpret BOMs, and ensure timely, quality supply at the right price, while maintaining strong supplier relationships and adherence to processes.

Qualifications

• Experience in B2B procurement relationships.
• Proficient with ERP/MRP processes and standard working practices.
• Ability to interpret BOMs, specifications and drawings.

Responsibilities

• Interrogate demand and manage material requirements aligned to business needs.
• Interpret bills of materials, specifications and drawings.
• Ensure quantities and quality meet contracted arrangements.
• Identify and prioritise delivery of key materials with suppliers to meet schedules.
• Expedite material orders and escalate risks as needed.
• Develop strong relationships with key suppliers and monitor delivery performance.
• Mentor junior colleagues on procurement processes and systems.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify value opportunities.
• Manage standard operations within agreed timescales.
• Coordinate with internal departments to ensure materials meet specifications and are readily available.
• Prepare RFQ/IRs for identified materials and analyse cost, price and margin.
• Monitor cost compliance and take remediation actions as needed.
