Job summary

Teaching Vacancies is seeking a proactive Education Welfare Officer/Attendance Manager (Maternity Cover) to lead the attendance team and implement whole-school strategies to improve student attendance and access to learning.

The role requires legislative knowledge, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to engage with families in challenging circumstances, ensuring safeguarding remains at the heart of work.

Qualifications

• Must hold a Level 3 qualification or equivalent professional qualification.
• Experience using education welfare, social work, or counselling approaches with parents/children.
• Strong record-keeping and high‑quality report writing.

Responsibilities

• Lead the academy's attendance and punctuality policy to improve overall attendance.
• Oversee MIS and automated parent contact systems; manage daily 'Late Gate' patrols.
• Identify attendance barriers with families and provide interventions; conduct home visits when needed.
• Coordinate with safeguarding partners and manage statutory actions, including penalties and court preparation.
• Analyse attendance data for SLT and lead attendance panels and fast-track meetings.
