JOB DETAILS

Job Band: E

Contract: Permanent, Full-time

Department: Media Tech

Location: Any BBC UK office (Hybrid)

Salary: £65,400 - £87,133 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

We’re happy to discuss flexible working. If you’d like to, please indicate your preferencein the application – though there’s no obligation to do so now. Flexible working will bepart of the discussion at offer stage.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Large organisations rarely struggle because they lack ideas.

They struggle because priorities compete, decisions take too long, important signals are missed, and nobody is looking across the whole system.

We're building a new function to help solve those problems.

As a Strategic Alignment Lead, you'll help BBC MediaTech turn complexity into clarity, alignment and action.
You won't manage projects.
You won't own delivery.
You won't run operational services.

Instead, you'll help leaders understand what matters most, where trade-offs exist, and what action is needed next.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

You’ll operate at a digital portfolio level helping shape how strategic choices are madeacross a complex portfolio of digital products, not just how work is delivered. As a newlyestablished function, you’ll help define how Portfolio Alignment works in practice, notjust operate within an established model. This is an opportunity to influence how workis sequenced and coordinated across a complex environment, supporting strategicdecisions that help the BBC deliver for audiences now and in the future.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
  • Create clarity on portfolio health, strategic priorities, risks and opportunities across BBC MediaTech.
  • Surface emerging risks, dependencies, constraints and opportunities before they become visible through standard reporting.
  • Help leaders make better, faster decisions by turning complex information into clear insight and recommendations.
  • Build alignment across teams, portfolios and stakeholders with competing priorities and perspectives.
  • Connect information, people and priorities from across the organisation to create a coherent view of what matters most.
  • Shape how strategic decisions are informed, discussed and acted upon across MediaTech.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

You will thrive if:

  • You are the person people turn to when something important is stuck, unclear or fragmented.
  • You enjoy helping organisations make progress where the path forward isn't obvious.
  • You naturally see connections, patterns and risks that others miss.
  • You ask difficult questions, challenge assumptions and focus attention on what matters most.
  • You enjoy influencing senior leaders and shaping decisions, even when you don't own the outcome.
  • You are motivated by organisational impact rather than ownership of delivery.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
  • Ability to understand and navigate complex organisational systems, identifying the factors that influence outcomes beyond individual teams, projects or programmes.
  • Strong judgement and the ability to identify what matters most in ambiguous and fast-moving environments.
  • Experience bringing together diverse information, perspectives and signals and translating them into clear recommendations, insight and action.
  • Experience influencing decisions, priorities and outcomes across organisational boundaries without direct authority.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills, including the ability to align groups with competing priorities or perspectives.
  • Experience supporting senior leaders through complex decisions, trade-offs or organisational change.
  • Comfortable operating where ownership, priorities or ways of working are evolving, and able to create momentum despite uncertainty.
  • Evidence of shaping organisational outcomes, not simply tracking, reporting or coordinating activity.

If you can bring some of these skills and experiences, along with transferable strengths, we’d love to hear from you and encourage you to apply.
