Job summary

Westminster City Council is seeking an AI Governance Lead to provide strategic leadership for the Council’s AI Governance Framework, ensuring safe, ethical, legally compliant and aligned AI adoption across our organisation.

Defining governance standards, writing papers for senior boards, and integrating governance with data and technology delivery are core duties. You will translate regulatory requirements into practical controls and support senior stakeholders with clear guidance.

Qualifications

• Significant experience of leading AI governance in a complex, regulated organisation.
• Working knowledge of UK GDPR and related laws.
• Ability to translate legal, regulatory and organisational requirements into practical standards and controls.
• Degree or equivalent professional experience in governance, risk, assurance, data or technology.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for the Council’s AI Governance Framework.
• Define governance standards, templates, controls and guidance for delivery teams.
• Write papers, recommendations and decisions for senior boards and forums.
• Coordinate assurance activities and monitor legislation, regulation and guidance.
• Produce strategic reports on risks, controls, compliance and governance maturity.
