Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science for an individual to join our technical team as a Stores Support Technician. This team plays a vital role in supporting the smooth and safe operation of the school’s research and teaching facilities, ensuring that laboratories and stores are fully equipped and compliant with health and safety standards.

The successful candidate will be responsible for processing and recording deliveries, monitoring stock levels, and distributing goods and equipment across the school. The role also includes operating departmental equipment such as autoclaves and glasswashers, performing routine maintenance checks, and supporting the safe disposal of clinical waste. You will also be required to drive school vehicles to collect samples from external suppliers and ensure vehicles are maintained and presentable.

We are seeking a candidate with excellent interpersonal skills and strong oral and written communication abilities. You should be methodical, able to meet deadlines, and capable of working effectively under pressure. A good understanding of health and safety procedures and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of GCSEs (grade C and above) in Maths and English or equivalent, or relevant work experience in a similar technical role. A full UK manual driving licence is required. Previous experience in a laboratory environment would be desirable.

This is a permanent, full-time role (36.25 hours per week). Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Maxine Fowler: email maxine.fowler@nottingham.ac.uk. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
