Whitehall Resources require a Storage SME to work with a key client on a 3-6 month initial contract.

This role will involve on site work in Sheffield 3 days per week on site.

Role Overview

The client is seeking a highly experienced Storage SME to provide technical leadership and strategic guidance for storage architecture and operations within the OpenShift infrastructure migration project. This role will ensure that storage solutions are designed, implemented, and optimized to meet performance, scalability, and compliance requirements across multi-cloud, hybrid, or on-prem environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership:
    • Define storage architecture strategy for OpenShift clusters and workloads.
    • Advise on best practices for storage provisioning, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
    • Serve as the go-to expert for storage-related issues and escalations.
  • Design & Integration:
    • Collaborate with Infrastructure Engineers and OpenShift Architects to integrate storage solutions with compute and networking layers.
    • Ensure compatibility with containerized workloads and persistent storage requirements.
  • Performance & Optimization:
    • Conduct performance assessments and recommend improvements.
    • Implement high availability, redundancy, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Compliance & Security:
    • Ensure storage configurations align with the security and regulatory standards.
    • Implement encryption, access controls, and data protection measures.
  • Governance & Documentation:
    • Maintain detailed documentation of storage architecture, policies, and operational procedures.
    • Support audits and compliance reviews.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with Automation Engineers to enable automated storage provisioning and scaling.
    • Provide guidance to Storage Engineers and other technical teams.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Extensive experience in enterprise storage technologies (eg, NetApp, Dell EMC, IBM, or cloud storage platforms).
  • Strong knowledge of storage protocols (iSCSI, NFS, Fibre Channel) and SAN/NAS architectures.
  • Familiarity with OpenShift, Kubernetes, and container storage interfaces (CSI).
  • Expertise in backup, replication, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and performance optimization skills.
  • Certifications in storage technologies or cloud platforms preferred.
