Overview

The Sterile Services Department at Luton & Dunstable NHS Trust requires a Technician to join our busy team.

We have 2 full-time and 1 part-time positions available.

Shift Details
  • Position 1 – Full time (Evening Shift): 20:30 to 04:30, 37.5 hours/week.
  • Position 2 – Full time (Alternating shifts): days (08:00‑16:00) and evenings (13:00‑21:00) and every 4th weekend, 37.5 hours/week.
  • Position 3 – Part time: 10:00‑18:00 on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, 30 hours/week.
  • All roles will require bank holiday working by rota.
Department Overview

The Department processes flexible endoscopes, surgical instruments and supplies sterile and disinfected equipment to the wards, departments and theatres within the hospital.

Responsibilities
  • Decontaminate and sterilise surgical instruments, including flexible endoscopes.
  • Operate decontamination equipment such as washer‑disinfectors, endoscope reprocs, drying cabinets, heat‑sealing machines and sterilisers.
  • Check ward stock and deliver sterile packs to wards and departments.
  • Check surgical instruments and other items prior to packing.
  • Pack items into specified packs and collate orders for outside users.
  • Collect used items from patient areas and check stock in distribution areas.
  • Maintain clean and tidy work areas, participating in department cleaning schedule.
  • Adhere to department policies and procedures, including quality management systems.
  • Perform any other reasonable duty as requested by the Manager or Supervisor.
  • Manual handling of heavy loads may be involved; training will be provided.
Qualifications & Requirements

Experience is desirable but not essential; an in‑house training programme is available.

Strict uniform policy in place due to infection control.

Travel between hospital sites may be required.

Probationary period: first 6 months in post.
