Job summary

Fawkes and Reece in Newhaven are seeking an experienced Steel Fixer to join a reputable structural subcontractor. You will set out work areas, follow engineering plans, and install reinforcement to build cages and bases.

Candidates must have at least 3 years' experience, hold a valid CSCS card, be comfortable at height, capable of working outdoors in all weather, and able to work as part of a team or alone.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years' experience as a Steel Fixer.
• Current CSCS card required.
• Able to work to technical plans and safety rules.

Responsibilities

• Set out the work area, following engineering plans.
• Use hand and power tools to cut and bend bars or mesh.
• Tie reinforcement bars to build cages.
• Fit spacers and chairs for supports.
• Use rebar to build casts to keep setting concrete in place.
• Fix steel to concrete bases.
• Install beams and pre-cast slabs.

The company:

A well-established national structures business within the construction space that focus mainly on RC frames and steel frame structures.

The role:

As a Steel Fixer, you will be responsible for:

• Setting out the work area, following engineering plans


• Using hand and power tools to cut and bend bars or mesh


• Tying steel reinforcement bars (rebars) to build cages


• Fitting spacers and chairs (supports)


• Using rebar to build special casts to keep setting concrete in place


• Fixing steel to concrete bases


• Installing beams and pre-cast slabs.

About you:

• Able to work to technical plans


• Comfortable working at height


• Good level of physical fitness


• Happy to work outdoors in all weathers and in cramped conditions.


• A minimum of 3 years' experience working as a Steel Fixer


• Be able to work in a team or alone.
